  • License (Bachelor): A three-year undergraduate degree equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.

  • Doctorate: For master’s degree holders, an additional three years of coursework culminating in a doctoral qualification is mandatory for medical doctors.

It is a public and private institution similar to universities but focusing on specialized three-year courses in subjects like business, engineering, or public administration, getting admission to which is through competitive exams, generally following a two-year preparatory course. Graduates of this institution earn a master’s degree.

Grandes Écoles

Public or private institutions promote professional careers in specific fields such as art, film, creative writing, architecture, social work, fashion, or tourism. Specialized schools provide licenses and master’s degrees for such courses.

  • September/fall intake: this is the main intake for most of the French universities and also the most important one as a wider variety of courses are offered during this intake. It is suitable for students wanting to start their studies at the beginning of the academic year, as it starts in late September or early October.
